Little Songs Of The Mutilated is an ongoing project by an ever growing community of talented and rigorous sound artists and musicians - mostly based in Melbourne, Australia - coming together to experiment and play with their medium. The project focuses on cultivating and nurturing the potential for collective creativity, reveling in surprise, and investigating new possibilities for musical form and content in a fun and exciting way.

A Tightfisted Molten Sellout.
In sonic terms, the idea of collage isn't strange. From musique concrete, through to the sample culture of the 1980s, and the ongoing digital age of remixing, it is something that sound artists and music producers just do. In the context of LSotM, and the interest in translating surrealist/Dada processes to music, it seemed obvious to explore something like this eventually.
In this particular case, each person involved in the project initially submitted a 5 second sound file. Then once all the sound cuttings were collected in one place, each artist worked individually, using the sounds amassed to create a track unique to their own vision. As usual in the LSotM process, there are no rules dictating content.
With over 120 participants in the LSotM collective so far, this particular project only represents a small cross-section of our ever-growing community. Thus it is good to consider this as "volume 1" of what will hopefully be another ongoing series of releases, showcasing the creativity that abounds and the possibilities that arise when fearless individuals come together to make music.
